While furniture is undoubtedly the core element of any interior
design, it is only when
furnishings are combined with decorative and personal items that
an atmospherically rich
and vibrant collage is created. Fabric, colors, lighting, objects
and accessories evoke sensory
impressions that allow rooms to be designed and redesigned in line
with altered
moods and requirements. Natural themes have played a critical role
since the earliest
known interiors, and are also reflected in the work of Ronan and
Erwan Bouroullec.
Shaped from maple wood and gently smoothed, "L'Oiseau" conjures
the clarity of
the wooden objects of Nordic folk art. "L'Oiseau" adds a
sympathetic note to modern
interiors without being at all cutesy or kitschy like many other
animal figures.

office or in a child's room: the Rotary Tray offers a decorative way to tidy up
any space.

The round upholstered Seat Dot cushions offer a simple way to add comfort
to chairs made of plastic, wood or metal. The top and bottom surfaces are
covered in different fabrics to create subtle or bold colour accents, which are
further enhanced by contrasting binding around the edge.
The Seat Dots
were developed in collaboration with Hella Jongerius and coordinated in colour
and size with such classics as the Eames Plastic Chair, the Panton Chair or
Prouvé's Standard Chair. Yet thanks to their universal shape, the seat cushions
suit most other chair types as well. Moreover, they can be used on both sides
and washed if necessary.

Alexander Girard, 1963
Alongside Charles and Ray Eames as well as George Nelson, Alexander Girard was one of the decisive figures in post-War American design. The focus of his broad oeuvre was on textile design, and a key source of inspiration for him was his passion for the popular art of South America, Asia and East Europe. The Wooden Dolls, which Girard created for his own home in Santa Fe and made himself, are likewise inspired by his own extensive collection of works of popular art. Half decorative element, half toy, the Wooden Dolls were originally intended only for personal use. Based on originals found in the Girard Estate held by the Vitra Design Museum, the partly joyful, partly grim-looking company of dolls is now coming out as a charming enhancement to any interior. Collection Vitra Design Museum.

The architect and designer Alexander Girard was one of the leading figures
in American design during the postwar era. His passion for colours, patterns and
textures found expression in the field of textile design, which was a focal part
of his oeuvre.
In his work, Girard paired motifs from folk art sources
with abstract patterns. Many of his figures and patterns exude a cheery
playfulness, and thanks to their vivid colours, even his simplest graphic motifs
possess a high degree of differentiation.
The Graphic Print Pillows are
now bringing a number of these designs to life again: abstract graphics and
expressive figurative motifs create striking accents. The soft pillows are
optimally suited as a decorative accessory for a diverse range of interior
styles.

The two-toned patterns of the Girard Wool Blankets were
originally conceived in 1971 as printing motifs for decorative wall panels,

designs are now being executed in a jacquard weave to produce this fine
collection of wool blankets. An additional effect of this weaving technique is
seen in the alternating constellations of vibrant and muted colour
tones.
